Wednesday evening - Heathrow Airport

Apart from the flight leaving approximately one hour late, everything so far has gone smoothly, and we descended into Heathrow at about 7:20pm. Although it was only a hour's journey, a snack was still served, consisting of sandwiches (which were lovely), a glass of wine and a cup of tea - nice one British Airways!

Baggage Retrieval - Terminal 5

Despite all the recent publicity, baggage retrieval was a breeze, but then, the place was near-deserted, with only half a dozen passengers stood around waiting eagerly for their cases to appear from behind the rubber flaps. When they did appear, it produced a few little cheers (well, you do don't you?).

I didn't get to see much of Terminal 5, but from the aircraft, as we taxied in, it certainly looked impressive, all lit up, and quite huge. I was slightly disappointed not to see someone stood waiting for me with a card bearing my name, ready to whisk me off to the hotel in a limousine, but I needn't have worried; directions to shuttle buses heading for all the local airport hotels were clear, and I only had to wait about 10 minutes before H56 arrived to carry me to my final destination for the day - Ibis hotel (which is big, and a bit like a rabbit warren). The £4 for a 10-minute bus ride seemed a little excessive, but then they do have rather a captive audience don't they? The same trip is going to cost me a further £4 tomorrow morning - and while I'm on about money - £6 for a pint of bitter and a ham and cheese sandwich in the hotel bar? That's just taking the whatsit isn't it?

It's an early start in the morning - I have to be at Terminal 3 for 7am, in time to check-in for my flight to Miami which leaves at 9:20. Tomorrow's going to be a long day!
