Last night we left the Bay of Biscay and turned the corner into the English Channel. With home in sight (figuratively speaking), the very last leg of our journey is going to be a gentle sail over the channel towards Southampton. Then it will all be over.
This morning, the first job for many was to collect their passports from reception. When I got there to retrieve mine, I was told that I will be given it at 7:15 tomorrow morning, prior to disembarkation. Apparently, because I joined the cruise in Tortolla, I have to have a face to face inspection with immigration officers, presumeably to prove I am who I am and not an imposter. That'd be a turn up, wouldn't it? If I wasn't allowed back into the UK because I don't quite match up with the image on my passport photograph (I do vaguely resemble an Iranian terrorist in it - my hair was longer and I looked a lot meaner).
Turns out, also, that my workshop yesterday was the last one after all. When the Daily Blurb, programme came around (it's actually just called 'Today'), 2:00pm is listed as 'Art Exhibition' in The Britannia Lounge. Hopefully my students and lots of interested passengers will turn up and do a bit of mingling and help turn it into something of an occasion.
It has certainly been an eventful 4 weeks, spanning two different cruises on two different ships, which has taken me to places I've not been to before, and despite the odd few disappointments in the itinerary changes, I've enjoyed the experience. Tomorrow, I'll be returning to reality, and a busy year ahead. I have another cruise to look forward to in April, but my life doesn't, and I don't think could, revolve entirely around cruise-work. I'm looking forward to going home, and will take many cherished memories with me.
